An Impulsive High School Student Manifests Numerous Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Thrown Out Of School, And Has To See The School Therapist
Stephen was a sixteen year old high school sophomore who was displaying more than a few alcohol-related issues at school. Therefore, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school therapist, before he would be permitted to return to class.
Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to explain his school expulsion to his Mother and Father. His Mother and Father were "fairly conservative" and explained to Stephen that getting expelled from school was not a satisfactory educational game plan. They told Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his ankles that may encumber his educational aspirations for the remainder of his life. Furthermore, Stephen's parents were extremely unhappy that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his friends in the second.
It was apparent that his Mom and Dad were on the same page as Stephen's principal and informed Stephen that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school therapist. After his chat with his Mother and Father, Stephen in due course agreed to see Miss Pender the next school day. So Stephen called the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next afternoon after school.
When Stephen got to his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she instantaneously looked at all of the alcohol-related difficulties Stephen had gotten into and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related actions were such a cause for concern.
Quite honestly, Stephen questioned why the principal told him he had to see a school psychologist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking situation? In view of the fact that virtually all of his friends drink as much if not more than he does, drinking really is no big issue. Stated more forcefully, if almost everyone is drinking, why is this such a major concern?
In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was starting to thwart his ability to function as a responsible young man. As articulated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your buddies drink wine coolers, beer, hard liquor, or wine does not mean that it's the appropriate behavior for you."
Luckily, Miss Pender was very well prepared for her discussion with Stephen. She showed him reports and research studies she had underlined that listed various drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a bit of data that applied principally to teens.
After Miss Pender went over the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was obvious that what Miss Pender revealed to Stephen was a real bombshell to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the long term and the short term results of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also took the time to back up what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction facts and statistics that related to everyone in general, and mainly to adolescents.
Undeniably, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen instantaneously comprehended why he should not be engaging in abusive and excessive drinking with or without his friends anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she went over and then accepted her reinstatement into school.
