Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without having a turkey. I love turkey as much as the next individual, but sometimes the Thanksgiving turkey gets a little boring. In my family, we actually like to mix things up a little bit. Heck at times we'll as well skip the turkey in favor of some thing a little less traditional like ribs or prime rib. However for those of you who want the traditional Thanksgiving Turkey there're many different ways to prepare a turkey (including smoking your turkey, cooking your turkey in a turkey fryer, and so on.). Here are five different methods to cook turkey that are a bit different than normal, but just as tasty.
Roasted Turkey - Firstly, I just have to add Grandma's favorite roasted turkey. After all, what would Thanksgiving be without having Grandma's roasted turkey and homemade mashed potatoes? This roasted turkey is the easiest turkey recipe you'll find. Basically, you take out the giblets and rinse the turkey in cold water. Pat the turkey dry then insert three Tbsp of butter under the skin. Prepare a broth made of water, chicken bouillon, onion fine-grained powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Pour the broth directly on the turkey, cover with foil and bake for 3 1/2 hours at 350. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes more for a golden brown skin. Serve with home made mashed potatoes, gravy, and your favorite Thanksgiving meals!
Barbecue Turkey - We love to grill and grill throughout the year, no matter what the weather. We put everything else on the grill, why not a turkey too? Grilling a turkey gives it a special flavor and texture that you just can't get from an oven. While barbecuing a turkey, place the turkey in a baking pan over the flames; in this way you can baste the turkey periodically the same way you would do if you were roasting it.
Deep fried Turkey - Those of you who love crisp turkey skin will LOVE fried turkeys. A deep fried turkey is delicious and using a turkey fryer to cook turkeys is becoming a lot more popular, especially now that the turkey fryer is becoming a common kitchen appliance. While most turkey fryers are deep fryers in which you use peanut oil in a large frying pot, there are also oil free infrared turkey fryers too, which eliminate a lot of the mess of frying. Deep fried turkeys tend to have dark crispy skin (which my family fights over!), and underneath that delicious skin is tender, perfectly prepared meat that your family will love.
Turducken - This odd sounding turkey is actually a combination of various de-boned fowl: turkey, duck, and chicken. They all are put together and layered with stuffing to create this latest addition to the Thanksgiving table.
Smoked Turkey - One of my favorite methods of cooking turkey is smoking it. I just love the flavor of a smoked turkey, together at Thanksgiving dinner and for those wonderful leftover turkey sandwiches. Smoking a turkey needs several hours, but it is soooo worth it! One tip while smoking a turkey - placing a pan of water on the smoker will help hold in moisture and create a moist, juicy turkey that everybody will enjoy.
